1.  I have a Dragino LoRa product with 868Mhz, Can i use it in 915Mhz?

1.1  For End Node: YES

In our product, the 868Mhz and 915Mhz modules use the SX1276/SX1262 HF Radio path, the difference of these two modules are 3 inductors that can let the module work best in 868MHz or 915Mhz.

If user updates the firmware to support different regions. the difference will be the Radio performance which is not significant between 868Mhz and 915Mhz. Around (0.5~1 dB)

1.2  For LoRaWAN Gateway: NO

In LoRaWAN Gateway design, a bandpass filter is used to reduce the noise of unwant band to the minimize level.

  • For 868Mhz hardware version, the range for this filter is  : 863Mhz ~ 870Mhz. A signal on other frequencies will be considered as noise and high decreased.
  • For 915Mhz hardware version,  the range for this filter is  : 902Mhz ~ 928Mhz. A signal on other frequencies will be considered as noise and high decreased.

So use a 868Mhz gateway hardware for 915 (or adverse) will see very poor radio performance (distance maybe only several meters).

Below is the filter for 868 as example, There will be more than -60dB decrease in 915Mhz frequency.

2.  I have a Dragino LoRa product with 868Mhz, Can i use it in 433Mhz?

No,in the hardware side, the 433Mhz module use the LF Radio path in hardware(410 ~525Mhz ), and 868Mhz use the HF radio path (862 ~1020Mhz ) of LoRa chip. To save space and support PA mode, there is no radio path for LF in the 868Mhz module. So use 433Mhz in 868 module won't work, (actually, it might work if you put both transmit and receive devices very very close).
